This set of "Brilliant Uncirculated Coins" are newly struck and carefully selected by the British Royal Mint and sealed in this Protective Jacket. There is a booklet cover well packed the coins. Obverse : Each of the seven coins bears the standard Bauhinia design with "Hong Kong" in both Chinese and English Reverse : The denominations are struck in Chinese, English and Arabic numerals. The year of issue is positioned on the left and right, with a special commemorative design in the centre. Ten dollars $10 : A bridge symbol of transition. (The resumption of sovereignty). Five dollars $5 : A rounded version of the character shou meaning longevity is surrounded by the five bats-harbingers of the Five Blessings or Five Happinesses namely: long life, wealth, health, love of virtue and death coming only after achieving one's destiny. Two dollars $2 : The He He brothers, the Harmonious pair, born of different fathers, who, after much discord lasting seven generations, concluded that co-operation was more profitable was more profitable and conducive to happiness and so they symbolize agreement and harmony. One dollar $1 : A Unicorn, the Qi Lin, a fabulous creature of good omen and the symbol of the illustrious offspring of virtuous rulers and wise administrators. Fifty cents 50C : 1997, the year of Ox, a sacred and powerful animal which signifles the coming of Spring and a new beginning. Twenty cents 20C : Two butterfly kites, with their tails knotted together, the butterfly being the symbol of joy and conjugal felicity. Ten cents 10C : A traditional Chinese sailing junk, with a high poop, overhanging stern and three masts, sailing on a calm sea with a following wind.
